Is California state OSHA regulations significantly different from federal OSHA regulations for healthcare? How do we comply with the state OSHA regulations?

Thank you for that important question. This is a very significant question for all our California users. As far as healthcare and dental care are concerned 98 % of regulations are common between federal OSHA and Cal OSHA. Only two areas vary slightly. In California, complying with ergonomic standard is mandatory. California is the only state that has ergonomic standard. California ergonomics regulation requires an employer to implement a repetitive motion injury prevention program when at least two employees, performing the same job or work activity, develop repetitive motion injuries. The program should include a worksite evaluation, control of exposures that caused the injuries, and training employees.
As far as Bloodborne Pathogen Standard is concerned, Cal/OSHA regulations differ slightly from federal OSHA regulations, for example, California requires more information in selection and evaluation procedures for sharps needles and in the sharps injury report.
For all our California clients, we include California state poster, ergonomic standard and Cal Bloodborne Pathogen standard along with your order. This will help you to be compliant with both federal and state OSHA regulations.

Good news for California OSHA users. We have included CAL/OSHA Safety plan. The binder includes Injury and Illness Prevention program, Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control program with emphasis on selecting and testing of sharps products, sharps log and post exposure control plan. California's Chemical Hazard Communciation Plan, although included, is similar to the Federal plan. Injury and Illness Prevention Program for workplace security has also found its way into the binder.
CAL/OSHA plan together with federal plan will bring your office in line with federal and state expectations of OSHA compliance. CAL OSHA users need not be caught between federal and state compliance now. We have also included several booklets-both federal and state- that provide additional solace for training and compliance.
