I am a college student from Louisiana. I am doing a project on "Impact of OSHA on healthcare facilities." There is a clarification I need about TB control at the workplace. I looked up OSHA and I did not see a TB standard. What are the different osha standards that are applicable for a healthcare facility to be in compliance for TB?

I thank you for your question. As you may know OSHA does not have a safety standard for TB. They were looking to enact a TB standard but since TB cases were on the decline in the U S, OSHA did not go through with it in the 90s. However, OSHA does not need a standard to cite for any workplace safety violations including protecting employees from exposure to TB.

Employers have to comply with four important, distinct, and existing standards to ensure their employees are protected from TB exposure:

GENERAL DUTY CLAUSE 5(a)(1)
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION STANDARD (29 CFR 1910.134)
ACCIDENT TPREVENTION SIGNS AND TAGS (29 CFR 1910.145)
RECORDKEEPING (29 CFR 1904)
