Thank you for writing to us.

OSHA does not have any dress code/specific regulations for clerical help. The BBP standard clearly states that employees must wear adequate PPE if there is an anticipated exposure to blood and OPIM. Since PPE standard is a performance oriented one, OSHA has left it to the employer to stipulate what kind of clothes employees can wear and what PPE is needed to protect them from any hazard present in the workplace.

What is OSHA rule on clerical help, secretaries, etc. and their dress code on footwear? Because they are not working directly with Bloodborn Pathogens, or patients, other than paperwork, checking in and checking out. The secretaries are in an enclosed office, but do walk down hallways to get to break room and bathrooms.
